Monnie Bigger
Hello! My name is Monnie Bigger. I have been a paramedic for more than 26 years and have been happily married to my husband, Dale, for 25 years. Together, we have two amazing children. Our daughter, Samantha, is a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy and will graduate in 2027, and our son, Daniel, recently graduated high school and will be attending New Mexico State University this fall.
Throughout my career in emergency medical services, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals and families during some of life’s most important and vulnerable moments. These experiences have strengthened my passion for compassionate, person-centered care.
My journey to becoming a doula actually began more than 21 years ago when I was pregnant with our first child. At the time, Presbyterian offered a doula program through our insurance; my husband and I decided to give it a try. I will never forget our doula, Dawn. My first labor was long and challenging, and her support made all the difference—not only for me, but for my husband as well. We also chose to have a doula with the birth of our second child, and once again, the experience was incredible. Those two women helped make our birth experiences positive, empowering, and memorable, and I knew then that I wanted to become a doula someday. Little did I know it would take me more than two decades to finally follow that dream!
As a doula intern, I am committed to supporting expectant parents with empathy, encouragement, and evidence-based information throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I believe every family deserves to feel heard, respected, informed, and empowered as they navigate their unique journey into parenthood.
My background as a paramedic has taught me the importance of remaining calm under pressure, advocating for others, and providing emotional support during times of uncertainty. I bring these skills into my doula practice while recognizing that birth is not only a medical event, but also a deeply personal and transformative life experience.
It is truly an honor to walk alongside growing families and provide support, reassurance, and encouragement as they welcome their newest family member into the world.
